Say it today. Have it arrive on the right day.
Future messages let you write, record or film something now and have it delivered later: on a grandchild's 18th birthday, a daughter's wedding day, or to someone in your family who hasn't been born yet.
"By the time you open this, you'll be all grown up. Here's everything I hoped for you…"
"Happy tenth anniversary, you two. I wanted to be the first to say it."
Pick the moment. FamRoot keeps it until then.
Attach a message to a fixed date or to a moment in someone's life.
A fixed date
A specific day on the calendar, next year or twenty years from now.
A birthday
"On his 18th birthday." A message from you, waiting for the day he grows up.
A wedding day
Your blessing, in your voice, on the morning it matters most.
An anniversary
Something for a couple to open together, years into their marriage.
A milestone
A first job, a graduation, a moment you want to mark from a distance.
Your future self, or a future generation
A note to yourself in ten years, or to great-grandchildren you may never meet.
In writing, in your voice, or on video.
Some things read best as a letter. Others need to be heard. A grandmother singing the lullaby she sang to your father. A short video from the house the family grew up in.
- Text, written in your own words.
- A voice note, so they hear you say it.
- A video, so they see you too.
You can edit or delete a future message at any time before it is delivered.

Messages are tied to people, not inboxes.
Email addresses change. Phone numbers change. A person's place in your family doesn't. That is why future messages are attached to the recipient's family-member profile in your FamRoot tree.
Attached to their profile
You choose the recipient from your family tree, and the message is attached to their family-member profile.
Delivered to FamRoot users
A message is delivered only once that profile belongs to a FamRoot user. Until then, it waits on their profile. If the date passes before they join, the message isn't lost: it waits and is delivered once they're on FamRoot.
For someone not yet born
A message for a future generation waits until that person's profile is added to the tree and they become a user.
Yours until it's delivered.
Change your mind
Edit or delete any future message at any time before delivery.
Only the people you choose
Each message goes only to the recipients you picked.
Deleted with your account
If you delete your FamRoot account, all of your future messages are deleted and will not be delivered. More on deletion.
Questions about future messages

When can a future message be delivered?
On a fixed date, a birthday, a wedding day, an anniversary or another milestone. You can also write to your future self or to a future generation.
What if the person I'm writing to isn't on FamRoot yet?
The message is attached to their family-member profile and is delivered only once that profile becomes a FamRoot user. Until then, it waits.

What happens to my future messages if I delete my account?
They are all deleted with your account, including any that have not been delivered yet.
