Keep Your Pets Part of the Story

The dog who greeted every guest. The cat who slept on Margaret's lap every afternoon. Pets are part of the family, so on FamRoot they sit on your family tree with everyone else.

What a pet profile holds

The details that make them who they are.

A pet is a family member with a pet profile, added to the family tree like anyone else. The profile is simple on purpose. It keeps the facts in one place, and leaves room to describe the personality everyone remembers.

  • Name
  • Gender
  • Description: breed, habits, the funny stories, whatever you want to remember.
  • Date of birth
  • Date of death, if they've passed.
  • Up to 3 profile pictures

Why pets belong on the family tree

Ask anyone about their childhood home and the family pet usually comes up within a minute. Pets are in the photos, the stories and the jokes that get retold at every gathering.

A family tree that leaves them out misses part of the story.

Remembering pets who have passed

A place to remember them.

Losing a pet is losing a member of the family. When that happens, you can add their date of death to the profile, and keep their name, photos and description as they are.

You can also add a pet who passed away years ago. The dog your parents had before you were born, or the cat your children grew up with, can still be part of the family story.

Nothing is rushed and nothing has to be removed. The profile stays as a quiet record of a life that mattered.

Pets

On the family tree as family members, with a pet profile for name, birthday, photos and the stories that come with them.

Friends

Close friends, friends and people you just know, kept separately from the tree.

Questions about pets

Where do pets live on FamRoot?

On your family tree. Pets are family members with a pet profile, so they sit alongside everyone else in the tree. They are not part of your friends list.

What can I add to a pet profile?

A name, gender, description, date of birth, date of death (if they have passed), and up to 3 profile pictures.

Can I add a pet that has already died?

Yes. Add their details as usual and include the date of death. Their profile stays on your family tree as part of the family story.

How many photos can a pet profile have?

Up to 3 profile pictures per pet.

Who can see my pet's profile?

Your pet's profile works like a person's profile: it's visible to your connected family, within seven relationship levels, and to your direct friends.

Does it cost anything to add pets?

No. FamRoot is completely free today, with all features included. If paid subscriptions are introduced in future, we will give reasonable notice, and nobody is charged without agreeing.
