Delete your Famroot account

Last updated: 10 October 2026

This page explains how to delete your Famroot account and the data associated with it. Famroot is operated by Famroot Private Limited ("Famroot", "we").

How to delete your account in the app

  1. Open the Famroot app and sign in.
  2. Go to Settings → Delete account.
  3. Review the summary of what will be removed, then tap Delete my account.
  4. Enter the one-time password (OTP) we send to your registered mobile number to confirm. This step proves it is really you.
  5. If you have set up a Vault, you will also be asked for your Vault password, since deleting your account also permanently removes your Vault and the last messages kept in it.

Your account is deactivated and signed out everywhere as soon as you confirm. This action cannot be undone.

Prefer to ask us?

If you cannot access the app, you can request deletion of your account by writing to grievances@famroot.com from the email associated with your account, or including your registered mobile number. We verify ownership before acting on any request.

What is deleted

When your account is deleted, we remove your personal information from our active systems, including:

  • your name, date of birth and contact details (mobile numbers, email addresses);
  • your addresses, education, profession and social links;
  • your notes and last messages;
  • moments that belong only to you, and your photos and other media;
  • your custom profile fields and profile banners;
  • your saved preferences and registered devices.

What is kept, and why

Because a family tree is shared across generations, deleting your account does not break your relatives' trees:

  • Where your position connects other people (for example, as the link between your parents and your children), a minimal placeholder remains in their trees, shown as a "Deleted user", holding only the family relationships and your gender needed to keep the tree's structure intact.
  • Moments you shared with other family members remain with those people. A shared moment is removed once every person it was shared with has also left Famroot.
  • We keep limited records where the law requires, or to prevent fraud and abuse.

When your data is removed

Your account becomes inaccessible immediately. Your personal content is then removed from our active systems, and your media files are permanently erased from storage, as part of our scheduled deletion process. All of your personal data is permanently removed from our servers within 90 days. Residual copies may persist in secure backups for a limited period before they are overwritten.
